YOGA

Margaret Cashman

Margaret is a joint founder and director of the Iyengar Yoga Centre (North Dublin). She has been practising Iyengar yoga since the early 90s and has taught Iyengar yoga since 1996. As a holder of an intermediate (level III) Iyengar teaching certificate she has undergone continuous training both in her own practice and as a teacher. The Iyengar method appeals because of its exacting concentration on correct alignment and extension. Once she had started her first classes with Sallie Sullivan in the UK, Margaret was hooked and continued with Marguerite Lyster on her return to Ireland in the nineties. Development of her practice is on-going with visits to India (RIMIYI in Pune) and with teachers Margaret and Gordon Austin, Christian Pisano and June Whittaker. She trained as a teacher trainer with Gordon Austin in 2008 /2009. Margaret has worked in both corporate and academic environments and knows the challenges of combining a regular yoga practice with the demands of modern family living.

While maintaining her own practice, Roisin regularly attends workshops with visiting and senior Irish Iyengar teachers. Roisin now holds an Intermediate Junior Level I Teaching Certificate.

She was inspired by the holistic school of thought that yoga offered in working towards a healthier body, mind and spirit. After attending various types of yoga classes, Teresa found that it was through the Iyengar method of yoga that she really developed her own practice. She found that the focus on correct alignment and precision the postures encouraged her to take on a more disciplined approach to learning yoga. Teresa holds an Intermediate Junior Level II Teaching Certificate and works closely with Senior Iyengar teachers, Grainne Gilleece and Aisling Guirke. She is also a fully qualified Holistic Massage Therapist (ITEC).

Pavara's Iyengar classes are suitable for all levels and body types and have a reputation for being both challenging and great fun.

Sorcha Carroll

Sorcha's first exposure to yoga was as a child watching her mother's morning Hatha practice, but it was only when she started studying Iyengar yoga in Sligo in 2001 with Helen Gillan that her interest became more serious. She spent two years training as a teacher with Senior practitioner Pen Reed, qualifying as a teacher in 2004, and finished her Intermediate Junior Two qualification in March 2008.

Sorcha has tried other schools of yoga but find Iyengar's method the most fulfilling and inspiring for her. His emphasis on precision and alignment in each posture builds strength, flexibility, stamina and improves both mental and physical balance. She is continuing with her studies many senior UK Iyengar teachers and also has also studied under Christian Pisano, June Whittaker and Jawahar, and Sorcha was especially privileged to attend Geeta Iyengar's week long intensive at the UK Iyengar Convention in 2009.

Sara Morrissey

Sara began taking Hatha yoga classes in 1998 to help de-stress and stretch out during exam-time. Her interest was piqued and she began a teacher-training course with the Yoga Therapy and Training Centre (YTTC) in 2004. While continuing study with Eva for the next six years she also had an opportunity to regularly study with Gabriella Giubilaro (Italy) and Jurek Jagucki (Poland) who also teaches Zazen. After coming to Ireland she welcomed the opportunity to do teacher training with Aisling Guirke with who she continues study until present as well as attending workshops with visiting teachers from India and other countries. Svetlana also teaches yoga to people in recovery from
addiction. ‘‘When we practise yoga (or anything we do) it is important to me that we stay very sensitive and see very clearly our intention for doing it so we won’t make a habit of it.’’
